FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO IS HYPNOBIRTHING SUITABLE FOR?

Hypnobirthing is suitable for all pregnant women and their birth partners. It is effective for women preparing for their first or subsequent births as hypnobirthing acts to release fear which can be helpful for those who have had a previous traumatic birth experience. It aims to prepare women for birth by providing them with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions, while having the tools to have a calm and confident positive birth experience.

Hypnobirthing identifies the important role of the birth partner and details the value that an informed, calm, confident birth partner can have on the labour process. Many fathers/birth partners come to the classes feeling slightly sceptical but leave enthused and empowered to support the mother in her experience. Please remember, that if attendance of the birth partner isn't possible, hypnobirthing will still be effective so feel welcome to come with or without them.

AT WHAT POINT IN PREGNANCY SHOULD I ATTEND THE COURSE?

It is suggested that attending from around 20 weeks onwards is beneficial. This is for two main reasons. Firstly, the Hypnobirthing techniques are more effective the more they are practised, therefore embedding these techniques by the time labour starts so that they are second nature.
Secondly, the hypnobirthing relaxation techniques are useful to reduce stress during pregnancy and can be a lovely way to connect with baby while enjoying the pregnancy journey. Therefore it is an individual decision when to undertake the course however it is never too late :)

ARE THE HYPNOBIRTHING SKILLS SUITABLE FOR ALL BIRTH TYPES? (E.G HOSPITAL, HOME, NATURAL, C-SECTION ETC)

Yes! Hypnobirthing is about positively reframing birth to release fears and anxieties around labour therefore this is useful in any birth scenario. The breathing and relaxation techniques are useful not only in a natural labour but also in day to day life so will be transferrable to any situation. Finally, a key component of hypnobirthing is empowering the mother and birth partner to be able make informed decisions about birth, calmly and confidently, therefore these skills are vital regardless of how the labour experience unfolds.

DOES HYPNOBIRTHING GUARANTEE A PAIN FREE BIRTH?

In short...No. It is important that this is understood because each and every labour is unique and can progress in a variety of different ways. Despite this, Hypnobirthing provides tools to support a more positive birth experience by supporting the mother to remain calm, confident, comfortable and in control.
Hypnobirthing works on the premise that when the birth process is understood and allowed to happen as nature intended, there is less fear and tension allowing the body to function more optimally. This in turn allows a more efficient labour to progress.

WHY CHOOSE SIMPLY POSITIVE BIRTH?

The training that I have undergone to become a Hypnobirthing teacher is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. This training and assessment accredited me with a KGH diploma.

Through teaching, I am constantly evolving my offering to clients to reflect their needs. The Simply Positive Birth Hypnobirthing course is a modern, practical approach to hypnobirthing. Think "hypnobirthing for those that didn't think it was for them!" I offer a contemporary, accessible take on hypnobirthing based on evidence, delivered in an informal, interactive way.  As evidence evolve so does our course. This means you can be assured you are getting the most relevant and up to date information.

Furthermore, as a practicing pharmacist,  the fact Hypnobirthing is an evidence based programme sits perfectly with my scientific mind! Current research into the use of hypnosis in childbirth shows a reduction in labour duration (both first and second stage) reduction in the need for pain relief and a reduced rate of surgical intervention.

I am perfectly equipped to process and discuss changes in evidence and what implications that would have in your birth plan decision making.

Lastly, I have worked in this caring profession for over a decade and it is a privilege to support you at this incredibly special time of life!
